GSE221156
GEO accession for the pancreatic islet scRNA-seq dataset used by Tang et al. 2026.
- Organism: Homo sapiens
- Tissue: Pancreatic islet
- Samples: 7 T2DM, 17 non-diabetic, 14 prediabetic

Usage in Tang et al. 2026
- Primary discovery dataset for DEG and LASSO-based signature gene identification.
- CellChat analysis used for cell-cell communication network inference (MK and SPP1 pathways).
Relevance to This Project
This pancreatic islet scRNA-seq dataset is the discovery cohort for Tang et al.’s T2D signature genes (PNLIP, BUB1, CTSB, NAMPT). Although the primary tissue here is islet rather than PBMC, the signature genes identified from this data were subsequently validated by qRT-PCR in peripheral blood — demonstrating that islet-derived transcriptomic signals can be detected in circulating immune cells. This cross-tissue translational paradigm (islet discovery → blood validation) is relevant to the PBMC ancestry project’s goal of using accessible blood transcriptomes to probe tissue-level diabetes biology.
